A QR code on a business card lets people save your contact with one move of their camera. Here is how it works and how to make one without any hassle.
Why a QR code beats a phone number
A phone number has to be spelled out, and people often mistype a digit. A QR code scans in a second: the phone camera opens the link on its own.
Where the QR code should lead
The most common mistake is putting just a phone number or a single social profile into the QR code. People will open it but still will not save your contact.
It works much better when the QR code leads to a digital business card. Everything is there at once: name, photo, phone, messengers, social links and a “Save contact” button.
How to make a QR code business card in 4 steps
- 1Gather your details. A photo, your name, what you do, phone, WhatsApp and social links.
- 2Create the card. You can build a page in a website builder or order a ready-made one. With the second option you get your own design and a save-contact button without dealing with settings.
- 3Get the QR code. It is generated from your card link. Make sure the link is permanent, so the QR code never has to change, even when your details do.
- 4Test it. Scan the code with two different phones, iPhone and Android, and check that the card opens and the contact saves.
How to make sure the QR code scans well
- In print, make the code at least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 inch).
- Use a dark code on a light background, with no busy patterns on top.
- Leave some empty space around the code.
- Do not stretch or crop the code.
Where a QR code comes in handy
On a badge, a front desk, packaging, a slide deck, an email signature and right on your phone screen. We collected more ideas in “Where to put your business card QR code”.
In short
Your QR code should lead to a card with a save-contact button, not just a phone number. The link should be permanent and the code large and high-contrast.
